Hytale Early Access: Everything You Need to Know for January 13, 2026

After years of waiting, Hytale finally has a date. Early Access launches on 13 January 2026, with pre-purchases already live since mid-December 2025. Whether you've been following every blog post or just heard the news, here's what you actually need to know before launch day.

The short version: it's Windows only at launch, starts at $19.99, and you're getting Exploration Mode, Creative Mode, and full modding tools. Adventure Mode isn't ready yet - more on that below.

What's Included at Launch

Early Access gives you three main ways to play:

  • Exploration Mode - Survival gameplay with crafting, combat, and world exploration. You'll gather resources, build shelters, and fight your way through Orbis. It's not the full story experience, but it covers the core survival loop.

  • Creative Mode - Unlimited building with access to every block and prefab. The tooling here is genuinely impressive - scripted brushes, the prefab editor, and proper terrain manipulation.

  • Modding Tools - Hytale Model Maker and the full modding SDK. You can create custom content from day one.

The elephant in the room is Adventure Mode. Yes, it's coming later. The story campaign with Varyn, the Alterverses, and the full narrative experience isn't part of Early Access. Bit disappointing if that's what you were waiting for, but Hypixel Studios have been upfront about this. Early Access is about getting the core systems tested and refined.

Pricing and Editions

Three options, ranging from the base game to collector territory:

  • Standard Edition - $19.99 - The full game, all future updates included. This is all you need to play everything.

  • Supporter Edition - $34.99 - Standard plus exclusive cosmetics, a founder's badge, and early supporter recognition. The cosmetics are permanent and won't be sold separately later.

  • Cursebreaker Edition - $69.99 - Everything above plus additional exclusive items, soundtrack access, and digital artbook. For the dedicated fans.

Pre-purchases opened on 13 December 2025, so you can already secure your copy. There's no early access to Early Access though - everyone starts on January 13th regardless of when you bought.

System Requirements

Here's where it gets a bit limited. Launch is Windows only. No Mac, no Linux at launch. Hypixel Studios haven't confirmed timelines for other platforms, though they've indicated broader support is planned.

Specific hardware requirements haven't been finalised yet - expect those closer to launch. Given Hytale's custom engine and the visual fidelity they've shown, you'll likely want a decent mid-range setup. Nothing extreme, but probably not a ten-year-old laptop either.

We'll update this section once official specs drop.

What About Servers?

Multiplayer is there from day one, and Hytale's server model is worth understanding. Everything runs server-side - mods, custom content, the lot. When you join a modded server, you don't download anything. The server handles it all, and your client just renders what it's told to.

This is a massive shift from how most games handle mods. No more matching mod versions with friends or downloading gigabytes of content packs. Join a server, play immediately.

For server owners, there's good news on monetisation too. Hypixel Studios takes 0% revenue cut for the first two years, with a maximum of 20% after that. Compare that to other platforms taking 30%+ and it's a significant difference for anyone planning to run a community.

The Modding Difference

Hytale was built with modding as a core feature, not an afterthought. The Hytale Model Maker lets you create custom models, animations, and content that integrates directly into the game. Server owners can script custom gameplay mechanics, create new creatures, design entire game modes.

Because mods run server-side, players get a seamless experience. The technical barrier to enjoying modded content drops to zero - if you can join a server, you can play whatever that server offers. It's how Hypixel became the biggest Minecraft server, and they've designed Hytale's architecture around making that even easier.

If you're interested in creating content, check out the modding guides we'll be publishing after launch.

Zones You'll Explore

Orbis - Hytale's main world - is divided into distinct zones, each with its own biomes, creatures, and challenges:

  • Emerald Grove - Forests, rolling hills, and the friendliest starting area. Home to the Kweebecs and plenty of resources for new players. Think lush greenery, towering trees, and relatively forgiving enemies.

  • Howling Sands - Desert zone with sandstorms, ancient ruins, and creatures that hit considerably harder. The environmental hazards alone make this a step up in difficulty.

  • Borea - Frozen tundra at the edge of the map. Harsh conditions, dangerous wildlife, and resources worth the risk. Not where you want to spawn unprepared.

Each zone has multiple regions within it, so there's genuine variety even within a single biome type. The procedural generation creates unique worlds each time, but the zones maintain their distinct character.

What's Coming Later

Early Access is just the start. The roadmap includes:

  • Adventure Mode - The full story campaign with quests, narrative, and the fight against Varyn. No confirmed date yet, but it's the headline feature for post-launch.

  • Minigames - Official game modes beyond survival and creative. Think party games, competitive modes, and community events.

  • The Capital - A social hub for matchmaking into minigames and connecting with other players.

The Early Access period will likely run for a while - this isn't a "few months then 1.0" situation. Expect ongoing updates, community feedback integration, and gradual feature rollouts.

Ready for January?

Hytale Early Access gives you solid foundations: survival gameplay, powerful creative tools, and a modding system that could genuinely change how servers work. It's not the complete package yet - Adventure Mode fans will need to wait - but there's plenty to dig into on day one.

Pre-purchase is live now at hytale.com if you're ready to commit. Otherwise, we'll see you on January 13th.
